The US Navy’s AN/TPX-42A Amphibious Air Traffic Control Direct Altitude and Identification (AATC DAIR) system, which is used to provide Air Traffic Management (ATM) onboard navy amphibious support ships, is to undergo an upgrade with the addition of new Barco flat panel displays.
The AN/TPX-42A provides not only local ATM services, but also enables the identification of potential airborne targets. The system can track aircraft equipped with Mode 1, 2, 3/A and C selective identification friend or foe transponders.
In turn, the AN/TPX-42A takes radar data from an AN/SPS-43C primary and an AN/SPS-49A secondary radar.
