Sweden: SSR Contract

The American Saab Senis subsidiary ofSweden’s Saab defence and aerospace group has been awarded a contract to continue the development of its Small Scale Radar (SSR) for integration with a Forward Operating Base (FOB) defence system.

The company is staying quiet on the value of the contract, and theUSgovernment agency that awarded the contract.

The contract will run for one year, but could have the option to be extended for a further two years. The company is developing the radar for a number of different applications, including the provision of ground vehicle protection, FOB defence, and the protection of small riverine craft and helicopters.

The chief application being muted for the radar is to provide a sensing system which can then cue countermeasures.
