Taiwan – Patriot Sites Revealed

Thailand plans to deploy four Raytheon MIM-104F PAC-3 Patriot medium-to-high altitude Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) batteries near the cities of Taichung, central western Taiwan, and Kaohsiung in the southwest of the Island.

The deployment of the missiles is intended to protect potential political and military targets in these cities, along with accompanying critical infrastructure there.

Other site earmarked for a possible future PAC-3 deployment include the Dadu Plateau, also in central western Taiwan, Kaohsiung Country outside the city of the same name mentioned above, Hutoupi in central Taiwan, and also the airports at Pingtung in the south of the island and Chiayi in the southwest.

Along with its PAC-3 batteries, Taiwan has purchased 388 PAC-3 SAMs. All of the country’s 14 MIM-104F PAC-3 systems are expected to be in service by 2015.
